Since Quixotic Sojourn is really intended to be a blog about S's and I's journey of change in our lives I thought I would write a little about the next steps that I am facing after a cross-country move.
This week, so far, has been one of organization for me.
My first initiative was to glance through our financial situation. Of course, there is what I currently have in the banking account, but I also looked at the money that will be coming in — my unused vacation pay-out, my deposit back from my landlady, my renter's tax return and my share pay-out from my now ex-employer. Plus, there is the savings account — which I'd rather not tap into if I can — and Jason is working, so there is still some sort of income coming in. So, I have everything written out for myself against the bills and expenses I can be expecting over the next several months — moving isn't cheap! — and while it will take a little while to get back on track, I believe we can do it within six months.
Yes, I am currently unemployed, which in this economy is a little scary. However, we have moved to a state that has seen growth and seems to have plenty of opportunities so I am surprisingly not stressing about it... yet, anyway! But, that has been something I've already begun to look into this week as well. We have narrowed down the area we are looking to move to, so I am looking in that area right away. Just within the town (Grapevine) I have found a handful of jobs that sound promising, and that is an awesome sign!
Other steps I need to follow through on soon are getting a new license and car plates. I looked at information about this online, and I don't think it will be too much of a hassle. I also probably need to do some clothes shopping... oh darn!
My other goals right now are to get to know the area better and go see some sights! There are several places I want to go to, including the Kimball Art Museum and Texas Civil War Museum. I'd also like to get in some of that great Texas barbecue soon!
Anyway, the lesson is it will take some time, but I am feeling comfortable, and staying organized is key for me right now. More updates to come!
